Announcement
All Victorian Government funded general practice respiratory clinics (GPRCs) are due to cease operations on Tuesday, 31 October 2023 meaning patients will no longer be able to use them to get treatment for COVID-19, flu or other respiratory conditions.
GPRCs were conceived and funded as a valuable temporary response in the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. There was around 50 operating from 2020 to 2022; this number has decreased to 16 as of August 2023. Demand for GPRC services has decreased significantly in recent months. The remaining 16 GPRCs will close on 31 October 2023, when the 2023 influenza season ends.
Other care options are available. Contact your regular GP for respiratory related care. If you are unable to see your doctor and have an urgent need, contact the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department or your local Primary Priority Care Centre. If the situation is critical, please attend your closest emergency department.
Monash Respiratory Clinic
We are now located at 408 Huntingdale Road, Mount Waverley.
Monash Respiratory Clinic is open 7 days a week. The premises has ample parking at the rear, is well lit and fully accessible.
The clinic is a dedicated GP Respiratory Clinic for patients with low acuity respiratory symptoms. Our clinic is designed for treatment of symptomatic patients (e.g. cough, sore throat, runny nose).
If you do not have respiratory symptoms and require a COVID-19 test only, an appropriate testing location can be found here
Patients can access a respiratory assessment and receive support in the immediate management of their condition.
We prefer patients to pre book an appointment through our online booking system. We are also able to accept a limited number of walk in patients.
To ensure patients are made to feel as welcome and comfortable as possible, the service will replicate the standard process of visiting a doctor.
Once a patient is checked in to the clinic, they are taken into an isolation room where they initially consult with our nurse. The nurse then undertakes a full set of observations that is recorded in the patient management system.
We will be providing short-term management of patient’s acute, immediate respiratory needs, with longer term management supported by referral to back to the patient’s regular GP.
Our doctors provide written discharge within 48 hours to the patient’s regular GP following management of immediate respiratory illness.
Our nursing team assist patients to access ongoing GP care where they don’t have a regular GP.
We support patients who test positive to COVID-19 to receive care through the COVID Positive Pathways program, which links people to clinical care, monitoring and support services.
The clinic operates as an Emergency Department diversion option, receiving warm referrals from general practices, pharmacies, COVID+ Pathways providers and Emergency Departments.
We provide services to people with and without a Medicare card, with no out of pocket costs to patients.
We can provide access to interpreters for all patients when required, including for patients who do not have Medicare cards.
All our team adhere to infection control guidelines and the use of PPE as per Victorian Government Guidelines.
